Takin' to Task

*edited after Girl Scouts. :::::::::::LIFE WITH NOAH::::: We, like many people, have a morning routine. Our routine puts us outside about 2 minutes before the school bus arrives. This morning the bus arrived about 7 minutes late. Noah happened to be wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, navy slacks and a tie (he would have you know that it was not clip-on)because his teacher told the students to dress nicely for their field trip to see a play at Georgia Tech. I stood with the kids as they boarded the bus. The bus driver closed the doors, then pulled forward a little and stopped to open the doors. He is an older gentleman and he looked to be laughing. He asked me, "Is the boy dressed up with a tie your kid?" I had to admit it...so I replied, "Yes." Then, he said, "Well he just checked his watch when he got on the bus and asked me why I was late. He looks like a little business man." I asked the driver if he had ever seen the show "Monk"?, and he responded, "Yes". I said, "Well, that is our Monk." We both laughed and off they went. One of the things Noah loves to do is say things really loud. Here is an example:
One other Noah story: We had Pack meeting last Wednesday. Brother Peterson, the Cubmaster, asked the boys, "Do you want to play a game?" To wit,Noah called out, "If it's for being noisy, I'll win." ::::::::::::::::Another Easter Layout:::::::: I'm off to pick up Eve from Daisy Scouts. Take care!

Burnin' Daylight

Hey folks! My dad always says that to tell people that times going by and you need to get to work. Well, I need to go for a walk and do housework, but I wanted to post some of the layouts I have been working on.

I still have to work on more zoo pages and the Easter pictures. We had a great time at my dad and Alice's house with my sisters, Katherine and Tracy. The kids loved the confetti, or cascarones, eggs the best. We think we might just hide the confetti eggs next year and have the candy in the house for them to get afterwards.

Eve got a tick on her neck at an Easter egg hunt the day before. The hunt took place in and near some woods. She asked me what the bump on her neck was and I said, "OHHHH MICHAEL, Eve's got a tick!" She was really brave while Michael grabbed a knife and slide the blade under the mouth part and put his thumb on the tick's head. He pulled and the tick let go after a brief tug. He hopped down and tried to wonder off, but I had Michael kill him. This upset Eve. She thinks that even ticks deserve to live. I, on the other hand, did not feel so inclined. They can play in the woods, but not on my family. From some of the tick pics I could find on line I think it was a male, but I'm not sure of the species. You may find Eve with a shirt, or poster that says, "Be Kind To Ticks Week", but I won't be at the rally.

We dropped by my mom and Jim's on the way home from the Easter festivities at dad's. The kids were refortified with bags of sugary treats. Grannies are the best!

:::::::::::::TESTING, TESTING...1, 2, 3...

Taylor kids 1, 2 and 3 are testing this week. They are taking the Criterion Reference Test. The reading portion was yesterday and I didn't hear any moaning and groaning, so I guess they felt okay about the questions.

Beautiful, Breezy Monday

:::::::::Today::::::
I took my normal route to, around and from the park. It was so beautiful today. There was a bit of a cold breeze, but thanks to my trusty sweatshirt life was fine.

:::::::::Yesterday::
I had a rather calm day with the nursery kids at church. Michael came into help and so did a couple of moms. We have a really nice assistant that held our one that wanted to weep. We also have a resident grandpa that keeps the peace. Michael gave the lesson on The Good Samaritan. After book reading the children colored pictures about loving each other. We ended the day by "Walking in the Forest". A fun pretend way to go on a trip and be different animals. Our potty training kid had to opportunities for success, so all around a great couple of hours.

I called my stepmom, Alice, because we had the day open and she said, "Come on down!" She made some bbq chicken, carrots and steamed rice with veggies. My dad has been working hard and not feeling too well. Michael sat with him and watched NASCAR. Michael also played his new guitar. It's a Breedlove and he loves having the cutout and it resonats better than Aaron's beginner's guitar. The kids were good and it was fun to talk with my sister, Katherine. I helped Alice load some family photos she received and she let us put them on our computer too. Michael has them on his laptop, so when he sends me the files I will post a couple of photos. There were a few of the cutest brown-eyed brother of mine when he was a toddler. There were also a few with my dad as a kid and young adult. Fun stuff!

Another Valentine's Day layout from Noah's Party:

:::::::::::::::Book Review:::::::::

Half Magic by Eagerly was a cute book, but not timeless. The book would probably be more fun to just read out right. The kids and I didn't like the Reader's Theatre concept with the discordant voices. We all decided we prefer a narrarator style. The book is about an adventure undertaken by 4 siblings with an old, magic coin. So, if you like adventure stories with magic you would probably enjoy this one.

Must go now! Take care! :)

My sisters using sticks to take down huge spider webs in our path...not always successfully. We were all laughing at how goofy we knew we looked. The other benefit of trapsing through the woods is taking a bunch of chiggers home...NICE! (right, Katherine!) My sisters are so funny. I really like hanging out with them!

We never did find the old cemetery we were looking for...maybe next time...and a quart of some banned chemical that keeps chiggers off!

:::::::::::::::::::Kudos:::::::

I'll upload some photos from Granny and Grampa Towhey's later. Grampa already has a fantastic blog about the birthday. He also blogged about Denny and his 30 years with the DeKalb Services Center for the handicapped. Denny was NOT thrilled with the attention, but everyone did a wonderful job. The Eagle Scout projects at the school are so needed and look great.

Yeah to mom and Jim for giving blood, too!

:::::::::::::::::::A Noah Moment:::::::

First thing this morning Aaron checked his email and called up, "Hey look, I got 12 emails, Dude!"

To whit Noah replied, "They're probably filing complaints against you!"

Take care!

She Was 6, 6 Years-Old, Sunday...

Our surpise for Eve's birthday was a horseback ride at Roosevelt Stables. We had a blast. The stables are located in Pine Mountain, Georgia. We had 2 guides ride with our family. Eve had her own horse, named Moose. Moose was the largest horse and Eve looked like a tiny, pink, princess on top. We saw them bring the horses from the stables and there was this cute, small horse that we thought would be Eve's, but they had Noah ride that one. Bandit was the name of the horse and Noah would laugh every time Bandit took off. Michael had the only female horse, Wishes. I had Ranger. He was the slowest and would go off on tangents...Michael said our personalities were perfectly matched. Rachel had a handsome horse named Dallas. Aaron's horse was Scout. I think Noah's horse and mine were the only ones to go off the trial a couple of times. I had to push a few branches out of the way, but we made it just fine. The weather was perfect in the shade of the trees along the "Creek Trail". We saw some really cool mushrooms that found a fertile home among the horse manure.
The children were all so proud of riding their own mounts. Noah one the prize for non-stop talking on the trail, which was being quiet on the ride into Warm Springs. We made a cursory stop at The Little White House of F.D.R.'s, but we didn't go in because we had to drive back to meet Granny Alice and Hayley at Pine Mountain.
Back in Pine Mountain the kids were excited to see Alice and Hayley. Granny paid for our lunch at the sub shop and Kentucky Fried Chicken. She also paid for the 3 birthday kids ride at the stables. After a filling lunch we drove to a huge property that a friend of my dad and Alice's own. They let us ride their 4 wheelers and "Mule" (a rugged golf cart type vehicle). Rachel and Hayley showed Aaron how to drive the "Mule" and later Michael showed him how to drive the 4 wheeler. Their was about 160 acres of land to drive around. My sister, Katherine, gave Eve Pony-opoly and she played it right away with her cousin, Tyler. Tyler gave her money for her birthday, so she could go find something she would like.
My sisters and I went looking for an old cemetery near the property, but with all our traipsing around we only found several orb weavers and a bunch of hitchhiking chiggers. My sisters looked so funny swinging around big sticks as we went up the different paths trying to avoid the huge spiders' webs. We laughed out how crazy we must look. We could never find the cemetery, so we will have to go back when my dad gets back from his mission trip to Georgia...(the one having the war).

::::::::::::::Sunday...Eve's Official Birthday::::::
After church we went to Granny Sue and Grampa Jim's house for some sandwiches and cookie cake. Eve was so excited to open more presents. She got a little webkinz, but her favorite gift and the one most coveted by the other kids was a Sonic Screwdriver like on Dr. Who. The kids kept writing notes on the Psychic Paper and then using the Sonic Screwdriver to read the message. My mom also found the Dr. Who figures from the Manhattan episode and it included a...DALEK! Oh, Eve was so happy!

::::::::::::::::Book Review:::::::::

The Penderwicks were a charming family with a funny dog named Hound. Poor Hound also had a weak stomach, poor thing! The adventures the girls have as they meet Jeffrey Tifton. The character of Jane reminds me of Rachel. Eve is a mixture of Rosalind and Batty. We listened to this book on c.d. The actress who they used for the reading was not my favorite, but the story was done well. I look forward to the next book Penderwick book, The Penderwicks on Gardam Street.

Here is the book we started reading for family reading time:

I love the dark humor. This book is about 4 children who have living parents. The children want parents like in classic books, or to be orphans like their favorite stories. They mention such favorites as The Secret Garden, Pollyanna, and Anne of Green Gables. The parents find their children annoying and want to get rid of them, so they hire a nanny and leave without telling the children good-bye. It is so twisted and funny. I look forward to the zany antics for tonight.

I have photos on Michael's laptop that I hope to access soon!

Take care!

Welcome, Elliott!

Text: Aaron, Rachel, Noah and Eve were excited to welcome their newest cousin, Elliott. Aaron was especially good holding him. Elliott's mom, Melissa, looked great after her Cesearean section, but was experiencing a lot of itchiness due to her pain medication. Matthew, Elliot's dad, was suffering from a bad back and allergies. Elliott fussed only slightly and after a few good burps settled right down and fell asleep. Welcome Baby Elliott!

Noah took the visit to see baby Elliott as an opportunity to quiz Matthew on, pretty much, everything. Well as Monty Pythoners say: "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Noah wanted to no what part Matthew took in helping bring Elliott into the world. Matthew told him he had helped by giving support to his wife and various other things. Noah told him that wasn't good enough. Yep, this is Noah in his normal form. He also was certain about the directions for getting out of the hospital, which was opposite of the posted signs. To Noah those signs were wrong and he was right. What a troll, sometimes, but cute.

Here is a layout of my niece Haley:

Haley enjoyed hunting the Easter eggs at Granny Alice McClure's house. Aunt Katherine made and dyed a dozen hard-boiled eggs for the kids to hunt, but the kids refused to eat any of them! Uncle Michael liked hiding the eggs in the trees.

3 Sisters

April papers by Iron Orchid Designs, Stitches One by Mo Jackson, corner stitches by Sarah Batdorf in the Whimsy Kit and the flower pins from Sandra Boddington's Persimmons in Summer. Font: Mama Script

This is a photo of my two sisters, Katherine and Tracy, and myself about 1973. My father built this fence and a few years later a drunk driver destroyed it completely. You will notice I'm not wearing shoes in this picture and my sister, Tracy, is shoeless and unhappy. I still go shoeless when I walk around outside (yes, for anyone chastising me out there, I do step on sharp pointy, things that make me mutter things, but I simply prefer to leave my shoes off). My sister, now much happier, goes around with her shoes on when she goes outside. Katherine is a shoe wearer too, so I don't know about my backwoods personality.
This is an aside, but I read on the internet (Bastion of all thought, as it is) that if you never wore shoes your feet would never stink. I digress in wondering if adults went around na*ed would we not need deoderant? This is merely a thought and I am seriously not advocating nu*ity. I do own a mirror---Please!

My Sisters are Cracked!

My sisters were complete "cut" ups during Easter. My sister, Katherine, had the bright and colorful idea to buy confetti eggs and bust them on the heads of unsuspecting family members. The kids thought this was a great idea until a few of them tried the same stunt with "HARD"-boiled eggs! Ouch!...exclaimed Noah! "Hey, that hurt!"...yawled Granny Alice. "Do that again and I'll kill you!" yelled Aaron to Noah. I think we will do the confetti eggs again, but be a bit wiser.

I used Mo Jackson's Bookboard Alpha set, Stitches One and lace overlay from Dorothy's Kitchen, the egg is a freebie from Mary Fran's blog, the arrow (recolored) from Laura's Shabby Arrows, clip is called Spring Fling, but I can't remember the designer. Fonts: Pea Kate, Mailart Stamp, DymoFontInverse
